I am a practicing pediatric anesthesiologist. I take care of kids every week. This research program comes directly from that clinical work.
I chair the MPOG ASPIRE Pediatric Quality Committee. MPOG (Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group) maintains a national quality benchmarking program across dozens of academic medical centers. As chair of the pediatric committee, I lead the development and validation of pediatric-specific quality measures. This is how we define what good pediatric anesthesia care looks like at a national scale.
Beyond quality measurement, I work on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in pediatric surgical populations, sugammadex dosing and safety in children, and perioperative hypothermia prevention. These are the factors that determine whether a child has a good day in the OR or a bad one.
